Mestizo Mezcal Reposado

Mestizo mezcal is mean to bring to mind the latin “mixticius” or “mix” and represent the fusion of Mexican and European cultures. In mezcal, they feel that the European tradition of distilling mixes with the Mexican agave (and it’s fermented “pulque”). Mestizo is produced in Matalan, Oaxaca made from a base of 100% Espadin agave (where tequila would use the Blue Weber). The mezcal is produced in traditional ways including a fire pit to bake the agave and a horse-drawn stone wheel to crush it. Mestizo Anejo mezcal is their aged (or “anejo”) spirit aging for 16 months in oak (a bit longer than the requisite 12) prior to bottling, giving the normally clear/smoky mezcal an amber color and signature oak-driven vanilla and caramel flavors.
